I already have a home security system and pay for a service. I would like to purchase some more sensors, etc. to make it a more robust system, but I don’t want to pay the service to come out and do it; as they cost a ton.

If so, do you know a place where I could purchase components?

Ben F asked:

My condo is pre-wired for security monitoring (like ADT, brinks), but the service isn’t actually included in the association fees (meaning I’d have to pay for it myself).

What else can I do with the system? I’d like to be able to get some level of security out of the system. Is there a free service I could use? Or can I buy something that would automatically do the 911 call if the alarm goes off?

Todd H asked:

I recently moved into a house that had a Brink’s security system installed. The day I moved in, I realized that the doorbell didn’t work. It took me a little while to understand why. It turns out the doorbell is part of the security system, which has been deactivated. Is it possible for me to activate the doorbell without paying the $30/month fee for the security system? The system is a BHS-2000, and the doorbell has a wireless remote. I already replaced the batteries in the remote, so that is not the problem.
