Phil asked:

I recently switched from traditional landline phone to Vonage cable internet phone. However, my home security system can not communicate with the monitoring station as a result of disconnecting the phone line. How could I rewire my home phone wires to make my home security system work with the internet phone?

About how much would it cost to add power locks and a security system to my 1993 Honda Prelude?

We have a security system that isn’t fully functional due to issues with the poor installation but we would still like to be able to arm it at night. Does anyone know how to simply turn on the chimes? No need to fully arm it so police or fire are notified (not like they get notified anyway since the system isn’t functioning yet we pay), just want the noise if a door or window is opened. System is a Honeywell.

Oh yeah, NEVER buy from Firstline Security out of Colorado. They take your monthly payments, stick you with a system that doesn’t work, leave you with a defunct phone line and tell you to upgrade if you want it fixed or pay over $900 to have a non-functioning system removed! We’re still fighting with them to fix our system. Nice gig if you can get it!
We are locked into an agreement that they won’t release us from even though the monitor company they go thru has admitted they can not see our system. So stopping payment would only send our account to collections. Not a smart move.

My car has aftermarket security system but doesn’t come with remote. Does anyone can tell me how to get the remote online? Also, how to know what the system brand is?

I have lost my key for this car. I know that I can have the car towed to the nearest dealer( 30 miles away) and have a key made & programmed for the car if the code was stored when the car was manufactured. That process would cost more than $100. This car is used as a newspaper route car. I don’t really care about the sescurity system–I don’t need it. My fondest hope is that the security system can be disabled. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Forrest P asked:

I have 18 windows and two doors and live in a fairly nice neighborhood. There are existing door alarms and a previous system with two keypads, but it has not been turned on and I’d imagine a new company would probably want to rewire everything, especially since the windows have just been replaced. Does anyone know the average cost to install a security system plus or minus monthly monitoring? Thanks!

At random times the vehicle will not start because of the passlock security system. We usually wait about 10 mins. and the vehicle will start. The Chevy dealership says that I need a new ignition case ($500). We’ve been dealing with the inconvenience, however, it is happening more often now. Please help…

Jeff P asked:

I am in the process of rehabbing a house, but I have been robbed twice now and really want to get a security system, but so far the electrical and phone lines haven’t been installed yet. Does anyone know of any type of alarm that would be able to work without electricity or a phone line? Maybe either battery powered or something like that… Thanks!

My 1994 Buick has a “chip” on the key that “talks” to the car’s computer. On occasion the car will not start (like has no power although battery is new with full charge) and the alarm gets “stuck” (horns blaring, lights flashing) and won’t allow engine to start. Is there anyway that I can disengage the security system from this vehicle?
